Evidence Tech Unit
Crime Scene Technical Services provides crime scene services to all law enforcement agencies within the County. This unit provides crime scene photography, including in-house development of all film and video documentation, as well as evidence collection and other crime scene processing services. It is one of the few units in the metro area that is staffed 24/7 with certified crime scene technicians. They offer support to various agencies and their investigation of traffic fatalities, homicides, burglaries, thefts, cruelty to animals, crimes against children, drug manufacturing, and many other crimes.
The Technicians are certified Crime Scene Technicians through the Georgia Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) program. They have completed training for the Intoxilizer 5000 operators, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), Drug Lab, EVOC, GCIC, Livescan fingerprinting, and some training in the handling of hazardous materials. The Crime Scene Technicians are a part of the multi-agency response teams, also comprised of Fire and Police Investigators, which respond to terrorist threats and questionable substance scenes. Cumulatively, they have attended expansive amounts of training from renowned academies across the nation.
The Film Processing Section of Records and Identification develop and catalogue various types of photographic film. They have one of the very few full service mini-labs in place with a law enforcement agency in the southeast United States. They are capable of printing from virtually any form of photographic media including, large and medium format film, all digital media, and slide film. Likewise, they can convert most of these forms of media form one to the other. The lab personnel are regularly called upon by departments and agencies throughout Cobb County and it’s municipalities. They are also regularly consulted upon by other agencies from across the state for guidance and assistance.
