Canine Team

The Sheriff’s Office maintains canines of various disciplines including narcotics detection, explosives detection and tracking. The canines are utilized by specially trained and certified handlers under the command of the Tactical Team Commander. \

The explosives canine was obtained through a grant from “Milk Bone” dog biscuits at no cost to Cobb County. As a result of a contest among students from Bells Ferry Elementary School, in association with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Partner-in-Education program, the new explosives canine was named “Chance”.

The canine program also maintains tracking canines utilized for lost or missing persons and fleeing suspects. These canines have assisted deputies in locating wanted persons, persons fleeing from crime scenes and physical evidence related to criminal activity. The tracking program trains and works with the Tactical Operations Unit, as well as the Mounted Patrol.

Canines are oftentimes utilized in presentations and programs for the public school system, civic groups and nonprofit organizations. You can arrange an appearance by contacting the individual below.
