Then & Now

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office has a rich history of 175 years serving the community. Through this period, our office has undergone a great transformation. The concept of our role is still the same, we have adapted to the advances of the world. This transformation has been to benefit the community.

The following will present some of the technologies and changes that have been implemented.

Then Now

In the old days, one would have to fingerprint an individual with ink and a roller. This was extremely messy and the quality was inconsistent.

The completed forms were mailed to the state and returned in about 6 months. In many instances, the inmate would no longer be in our custody to take any action necessary. (E.g. bad print, given the wrong name, etc.)

Today, we use an inkless system that "checks" the quality of the fingerprint. This method provides immediate notification of problems with the prints.

Bad prints are eliminated immediately. The identity of the individual, if available, is known within about 2 hours.
