Lieutenant Ken Davis

Lieutenant Ken Davis leads the Inspectional Services Unit which is responsible for:

  • Internal Affairs/Inspections
  • Pre-employment Investigations
  • Training
  • VIP Program (Volunteers in Partnership)
  • Reserve Deputy Sheriff Unit
  • Special Weapons Permit

  • Internal Affairs

The Internal Affairs Unit is responsible for conducting internal investigations of Sheriff Office employees suspected or charged with the violation of departmental policies and procedures.

    Inspections Unit

This unit is responsible for inspecting the day-to-day operations of each of the Divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. Inspections are conducted routinely to insure employee compliance with policy and procedures.

    Pre- Employment Investigation

Investigators conduct applicant testing, thorough background investigations and interviews for each employment applicant. The employment process is designed to ensure that the most qualified and suitable candidates are selected to serve the community.

    Community Outreach Unit

Throughout the years, the Sheriff’s Office has placed a high priority on fostering a respect for the law and the rights of others. Through a variety of community-based programs in schools, civic organizations and community groups, our agency has had the opportunity to educate the public about the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse and other safety related issues. One particularly successful program has been the Consequences of Crime Program. Produced in conjunction with and for the Eastern Cobb County PTA Council, this program exposes elementary, middle and highmiddle school students to the justice system. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office has been a Partner In Education with Bells Ferry Elementary since 1989. This partnership is endorsed through the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. Sheriff’s Office staff volunteer their time to participate in classroom activities and field trips as well as assisting as mentors. The partnership is supported financially by various fundraising activities throughout the year such as a food booth at the North Georgia State Fair. Last year, more than $3,000 was raised and used to provide additional equipment for the students.

    Training

In order to maintain state certification, every sworn employee of the Sheriff’s Office is required to attend annual training. This training includes a variety of hands on and classroom instruction designed to enhance the employee’s performance and keep them up to date on changes in state and federal law. In addition to the required hours of state mandated training, personnel receive regular in-service training related specifically to their current duty assignment.

    Volunteers In Partnership Program (VIP)

The VIP program is comprised of some 40 retired Cobb citizens who volunteer their time and experience to supplement the work force of the Sheriff’s Office. Last year these volunteers contributed in excess of 11,000 hours of work in areas such as Inmate Processing, Inmate Visitation and Bonding and Inmate Release Civil Document Processing. The impact that these dedicated citizens have on the overall operation of the Sheriff's Office is simply incredible. Their enthusiasm is contagious and the work ethic they bring to the job is an inspiration to co-workers and the public alike.

    Reserve Deputy Program

The Sheriff's Office Reserve Unit was established in 1981. This unit is comprised of men and women from a variety of occupations who have voluntarily pursued the required training to become state-certified law enforcement officers. These individuals volunteer their time to augment full-time sworn personnel in the Sheriff's Office. In 2003, the Reserve Unit contributed over 4,000 hours to the Sheriff’s Office.
Reserve Deputies volunteer a minimum of thirty (30) hours of service per quarter. They perform such duties as traffic control, service of civil process, locating lost or missing persons and the transporting of inmates. The Reserve Unit itself is organized as a non-profit entity under the direction of the Sheriff's Office. The unit sponsors multiple fund raising activities throughout the year and distributes these funds to various charities in Cobb County. In order to maintain their state certification, these deputies meet the same annual training requirements as full-time law enforcement employees.
